If there’s one thing I’ve learned from years of traveling for music, it’s this: a great trip isn’t just about where you go — it’s about what you feel when you get there.
Next summer, my husband and I are heading to the UK for a journey that’s equal parts research, rhythm, and heartbeat. We’ll be tracing the sounds that shaped generations, from London’s punk roots to Manchester’s Britpop energy to Scotland’s haunting melodies. It’s a trip I’ve been dreaming about for years, not just as a music fan, but as a travel advisor building future group experiences for others who feel that same pull toward sound and story.
🎤 London: Where the Legacy Lives
Our first stop is London, a city that never stops reinventing itself, yet somehow always echoes with the past. I can’t wait to walk through Camden, Soho, and Brixton, where legends like The Clash, Bowie, and The Sex Pistols first found their voice. Between iconic venues and tucked-away record shops, I’ll be diving into the city’s music history and scouting experiences for future clients who want to feel that same energy.
🎶 Manchester: My Birthday, My Soundtrack
Next up, Manchester! The city that gave the world Joy Division, The Smiths, Oasis, and The Stone Roses. We’ll be meeting up with friends to celebrate my birthday and see The Cure live, a band that has soundtracked so many moments of my life.
But this stop isn’t just about the show. It’s about connecting the dots between the past and present, exploring music landmarks, local studios, and vibrant neighborhoods like the Northern Quarter that continue to nurture creative spirit. Manchester is more than a city; it’s a movement that never really ended.
🎻 Scotland: The Grand Finale
After the show, we’ll take the train north to Glasgow for The Cure’s next performance in Edinburgh (ed-in-bruh), a fitting encore for a trip that’s already tuning up to be unforgettable. Glasgow's music scene is legendary in its own right, and I’m excited to explore how tradition and modern sound collide here. Between live music venues, street performers, and historic pubs, I’ll be soaking in every note (and maybe a dram or two of whisky).
🎶 Why This Trip Matters
This isn’t just a personal pilgrimage, it’s preparation. As I continue designing music-inspired travel experiences through Sounds Like Travel, this journey will help me shape future itineraries for fellow fans who want to follow in the footsteps of their favorite artists, celebrate milestone moments, or simply reconnect with that universal language we all understand: music.
So stay tuned, I’ll be sharing updates, photos, and notes from the road this spring. And if you’ve ever dreamed of building your own trip around the bands and sounds that shaped your life, I’d love to help you plan it.
Travel Tips — August in the UK
☀️ Summer in the UK: What to Expect and How to Pack
August is one of the best months to explore the UK — with festival season in full swing and long daylight hours (sunset around 9 p.m.). But “summer” in Britain doesn’t always mean heat waves and sun hats!
Weather Overview:
🌡️ Average Highs: 66–72°F (19–22°C)
🌦️ Average Lows: 55°F (13°C)
☔ Rain: Expect light showers about 1 in every 3 days. It’s often quick, misty rain — not tropical downpours.
What to Pack:
A lightweight waterproof jacket or trench coat (bonus points if it’s stylish enough for a concert).
Layering pieces: cotton tees, long sleeves, light sweaters.
Comfortable walking shoes — leather sneakers or ankle boots blend in best.
A small crossbody or daypack (avoid oversized backpacks).
For shows: Black jeans, vintage band tee, ankle boots or Docs, and a denim or moto jacket.
How to Not Look Like an American Tourist:
Skip white sneakers, baseball caps, and athletic wear.
Choose muted tones over neon or loud prints.
Carry an umbrella, not a poncho.
Blend in by dressing “smart casual” — the UK leans toward tailored, simple, and understated fashion.
