There’s something about stepping onto a Virgin Voyages ship that feels like walking into a perfectly curated playlist- one that moves effortlessly from laid-back grooves to full-on rock anthems. I just returned from my first Virgin Voyage, and while I expected sleek design, incredible dining, and ocean views for days, I didn’t expect how alive it would all feel.

Music isn’t just background noise on board, it’s the heartbeat. From the moment you embark, every space hums with rhythm. The pool deck pulses with deep house beats, the On the Rocks bar hosts sultry live sets that could rival any intimate jazz club, and The Manor, Richard Branson’s glittering, neon-lit nightclub, feels straight out of a music video. Even the hallways seem to echo with the spirit of rebellion and rhythm that Virgin has built its brand around.

For someone who travels for the music, chasing the stages, stories, and cities that gave birth to sound, it’s more than a cruise. It’s a reminder that music and travel are two sides of the same coin. Both invite you to let go of routine, connect deeply, and discover something new about yourself.

Virgin Voyages understands that the soundtrack matters. The shows, the late-night vibes, the curated energy- it all speaks to travelers who crave connection through creativity. The same people who line up to see The Cure in Manchester or Joan Jett in Vegas? They’re the ones who find that same pulse at sea.

If you’ve ever planned a trip around your favorite band, imagine expanding that feeling- no ticket lines, no crowded arenas, just the open ocean, world-class dining, and music that follows you from sunrise to last call.

Because travel should move you. Literally, and emotionally.

🎧 Travel Tip from the Deck

For anyone curious about their first Virgin Voyage: don’t overpack. You won’t need formalwear, but do bring your style. Think edgy, effortless, and ready to dance. From poolside to nightclubs, live music to DJs on deck, there are plenty of spaces to be yourself. If you DO like to dress for dinner, the restaurants are a perfect place to do just that. Don't forget some light layers for evenings around the pool or rainy mornings. AND, do not forget your comfy shoes, new doesn't mean comfy- trust me!

🤓 What will I do different next time?

There’s really no way to prepare for everything, especially when you’re stepping outside your usual routine. I’m a chronic over-preparer and proud of it. Research is half the fun, right? But what I didn’t anticipate was spending nearly two hours just trying to get out of the port.

From what I later read, the tunnel was closed, traffic was re-routed, police activity was heavy, and eight ships had all docked at once, sending tens of thousands of passengers flooding Miami at the same time. Totally abnormal, but definitely memorable.

Next time, I’ll plan smarter and pre-book a DayTrip driver or car service just in case. The delay cost more than time; it cost us our beach day and a few dollars, too. We had planned to store our luggage through Bounce and spend a sunny afternoon on Miami Beach before our evening flight. Instead, we ended up at the airport hours early, watching our plans (and our lunch budget) evaporate. Meanwhile, friends from other ships were already checked in at their hotels. Lesson learned: sometimes even the best-laid travel plans can hit a detour.

But that’s travel for you, equal parts magic and mayhem. Every hiccup becomes a story, every delay a lesson, and every trip another reminder that flexibility is the ultimate travel skill.
